Alex Mitchell Butchers‘ very own home-grown talent was crowned the Winner of the Meat Skills Scotland 2017 Competition in Perth on the 14th May. Competing in the biennial final of the Nationwide competition for the third consecutive time held at the Scottish Meat Trade Fair, determined 27 year old Jamie Syme was named the Champion of the Over 22’s category.
Pictured alongside Jamie, who is holding his Winner’s trophy, are the very proud Alex and Margaret Mitchell along with their daughter and fellow family butcher’s business owner Katherine Greer.
Speaking after the event, new dad Jamie said “Becoming a father is something that can’t be topped but winning this title comes close.” And he added “This is the biggest butcher title that can be won in Scotland and it means everything to me. I’m absolutely delighted and very grateful to Alex for all his training over the years.”
Alex, himself, is a multi award-winning Master Butcher who has won titles such as Master Butcher of the Year and Master Poultryman of the Year during his whopping 55 year career. He said “As we approach 30 years based at The Glamis Centre in Glenrothes, this is definitely something to celebrate and certainly a significant milestone for Jamie in his career.“
Katherine said “This is a tremendous achievement for Alex Mitchell Butchers. Jamie has been with us for many years and we are all delighted that he has won this prestigious title.” And she added “He has recently become a father to newborn Grace, so this is a very special time for him and fiancee Chelsea.“
The winner of the Under 22’s was Ryan Briggs of Jedburgh based A J Learmonth Butchers.
Alex Mitchell Butchers have been shortlisted as a finalist in the butcher category in the Central region, at the Sixth Scottish Independent Retail Awards.
We were shortlisted based on the votes we received from the general public, who have been voting over the last few months with the winner being announced at the prestigious and glamorous award ceremony to be held in the Crowne Plaza, Glasgow on Tuesday 10th May 2016.
The evening will begin with a 6.30pm registration, then the presentation of some amazing awards, a sumptuous 3 course dinner and entertainment.

St Andrews chef, and Masterchef winner, Jamie Scott is the ambassador of a new Scotch Beef campaign.
Jamie, who used Scotch Beef for his main course dish in the final of Masterchef, became the eighth winner of the BBC One hit show back in December.
